MADANG WANSOLWARA DANCE 2014
Youngsolwara is a movement born out of the regional gathering, Wansolwara Madang Dance in 2014. The Madang Dance was a gathering of practitioners, academics, musicians, bloggers, artists, university students, community workers, social workers and activists, youth and church thinkers.
The Madang Dance provided an opportunity for youth and students who attended the meeting to have a separate space from the larger Wansolwara Movement to discuss issues concerning the Pacific through a young Pacific person’s perspective. Participants included students from the Divine Word University (PNG), University of Papua New Guinea (PNG), University of Goroka (PNG), University of the South Pacific (Fiji), West Papuan activists, Victoria University (New Zealand), Bismarck Ramu Group (BRG), Pacific Network on Globalisation (Regional), Pacific Conference of Churches (Regional) and other participants from Papua New Guinea.

Jon Osorio recorded into music the lyrics he composed for the song "One Salt Water" as his gift to the Madang Wansolwara Dance last September. The melody (to my amateur ears) is great with that soft ocean sound. (photo of Jon and Heoli Osorio)
One Salt Water
Once I had a memory that was long
Once I had a garden, now it’s gone
Wansolwara I believe your song, Wansolwara
Once I caught my fish within my net
Once I knew what I should not forget
Wansolwara, You will lead us yet, Wansolwara
Wansolwara
Our children will return their lives to thee
Thou gracious sea, Wansolwara
Once I saw the Morning Star at dawn
Once I saw their armies going home
West Papua, you are not alone, Wansolwara
