International Day for Human Rights 2020
In commemoration of the International Human Rights Day held each year on the 10th of December, Youngsolwara Pacific marched the streets of Suva in Fiji with partners of the Fiji NGO Coalition for Human Rights (NGOCHR).
In a bold parade, hundreds of participants in the march demanded for an upholding of human rights in Fiji as well as the region with focus on the rights of women, children, members of the LGBTQI Community, the working class, as well as a call to act on pressing issues such as police-inflicted brutality and torture.
INGOCHR Chair Nalini Singh said that "whenever we see injustice, Whenever we see violence, we must always report and hold those to account who are violating these rights. Not only in Fiji but in our region and the world because we don't live isolated lives, we are all interconnected."
Youngsolwara Pacific maintains its call for the the recognition of rights of our Pacific brothers and sisters still under colonial rule, especially West Papua, Kanaky and Maohi Nui.
The theme this year's Human Rights Day to " Recover Better - Stand up for Human Rights".
