ʻAʻOLE RIMPAC
In the summer of 2022, several Kanaka Maoli led organizations occupied the land in front of the Indo-Pacific Command at Puʻuloa (Pearl Harbor), Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi for ten days to protest the Rim of the Pacific Maritime exercises. The occupation was called Anahulu at the Koa. RIMPAC is the largest maritime war exercises in the world bringing more than 25,000 personnel from 26 countries, including Tonga, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia to the Hawaiian Islands to "play at war." This includes amphibious assaults onto Hawaiian beaches, live fire training into conservation zones, "jungle warfare", ship sinking, missile launches and aerial bombing of Pōhakuloa Training Area. These exercises have devastating impacts on the lands and waters of Hawaiʻi and other parts of the Pacific. Whale strandings, native bird deaths and other environmental disasters are all linked to RIMPAC. To this we say ʻAʻole RIMPAC! (No RIMPAC!)
