Emily Fatu
During her time as a Pacific Studies Masters student at the Victoria University of Wellington, Emily Fatu became aware of the current social and political issues in West Papua. She joined a collective of young Victoria University students that collaborated to raise awareness for the Free West Papua movement – a movement that raises awareness about the more than 50 years West Papuans have fought to attain their independence from the Indonesian government.
Emily had adopted jewellery making as a hobby back then, and created this ring as a personal acclamation of her active support for the Free West Papua movement.
